The gut houses trillions of bacteria which help produce neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine. In fact, did you know that about 95% of serotonin and about 50% percent of dopamine is produced in the gut?
These neurotransmitters travel from the gut to the brain with the help of our vagus nerve. When dopamine or serotonin are released in our brains, it generates a feeling of happiness. So the gut is literally controlling how we feel!
